Rishikesh or Hrishikesh the town and tehsil of Dehradun district of state of Uttarakhand is located in the foothills of the Himalayas of the Garhwal region, on bank of sacred River Ganges and just 20 km away from Haridwar and 46 km from Dehradun. Rishikesh is popular as Gateway to Garhwal Himalaya and Char Dham of Uttarakhand and city of saints. Rishikesh is one of the holiest place in Hinduism as mentioned in ancient sacred scripture and associated with lot of historical events.

It is also famous as Yoga Capital of the World as you can find lots of Yoga Centers, various spiritual activities camps, Ashram, ancient Temple etc. After the visit of famous British Pop Band Beatles to Ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Rishikesh comes in to attention across the world but in India Rishikesh attracts saints, Yogis, spiritual inclined people from thousands of years. As Rishikesh is located in foothills of Himalayas and bank of River Ganga, so becomes the home to lush greenery, pristine waters, pure natural environment and fresh air which attracts for meditation with full of spiritual energy. Utrakhaand Tourism Board organized an annual International Yoga Festival from March 1 through March 7 where world renowned teachers and thousands of practitioners around the world visit Rishikesh to celebrate the universal spirit of yoga.

As per the Legend, sage Rishi Raibhya performed severe penance on the banks of the Ganges Lord Vishnu – Hrishikesh – Lord of all sense appeared in front of rishi Raibhya, thus this place famous as Rishikesh. Over the time lots of saints had meditated and perform penance at this peaceful spot covered by Himalayas and River Ganges. Apart from ancient time, the great saint and philosopher of Sanatan Dharma, Adi Shankaracharya, visited this sacred land.

Aarti of Goddess Ganga on the banks of the river Ganga, Triveni Ghat, holy dip, Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula etc are the other key attraction of the Rishikesh. As per the legends Laxman, younger brother of Lord Shri Ram had crossed the river Ganga on a jute rope. Thus in honor of Laxman, Lakshman Jhula an iron suspension bridge over the holy river Ganga was built at Rishikesh. Thus Lakshman Jhula becomes the landmark and which also offers a panoramic view of river Ganga and Rishikesh city having number of temples. Apart from Spiritual activities Rishkesh is also famous for White River Rafting, Trekking, Bungee Jumping, various camping along with the fast-flowing Sacred River Ganges and adventure sports.
