Palitana is small town situated on the bank of river shetrunji in the Bhavnagar district. The name Palitana is derived from Acharya Padalipt. Palitana is the major and most famous pilgrimage circuit for Jain. “Adhinatha” – the first Jain Tirthankaras had meditated on the Shatrunjaya Hills, where Palitana Temples are built.
Now there are more than 3000 marble curved temples located on the Shatrunjaya Hill. On top of the hill, the main temple is dedicated to the first Tirthankaras Rishabhnatha. It has been said that 23 Tirthankar out of 24 visited this hill. There are around 3800 step from foot – Palitana Taleti to top of the Hill.
