Champaner, the historical city and ancient capital of Gujarat is located in Panchmahal district, at just 6 km away from Pavagadh – One of the 51 Shaktipeeth temple. Champaner was established by great king Vanraj Chavda, of the prominent Chavda Dynasty of Gujarat in 8th century. It was named after King’s best friend general Champa. Then in 15th century Champaner was attacked by Mahumad Begada and capture entire Champaner region. Champaner is now UNESCO world heritage site for its Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park.
