Bishnupur also famed as Vishnupur is one of the important town of Bankura district of state of West Bengal, located at 138 km away from Kolkata and well known as Temple town for its world famous Terracotta temples. City is named after the lord Vishnu as it was set up by Vaishnavite Malla Kings who ruled the region. Adi Malla had established the Malla dynasty who were ruled over this region, then King Jagat Malla had shifted his kingdom to Bishnupur during the 17th century.
