Panchkula, the district headquarter and one of the important plan city of Haryana is located at 11 km from Chandigarh and 19 km from Mohali. The name Panchkula is combination of two words, Panch and Kula which means five and canal respectively, which literally means that city of five canals. This refers to five irrigation canals which distribute water of Ghaggar River from nada sahib to Mata Mansa Devi temple. Though district came into existence recently but history of this region is dated back to Mahabharat time and associated with Pandavas. This area was ruled by lots of ruler during different time span.
