Bodh Gaya, one of the most holy site of Buddhism is located near bank of river Neranjana in Gaya district of Bihar. Bodh Gaya sometime spelled as Buddh Gaya as it is the place where Gautam Buddha attained the self-enlightenment under the holy Bodhi tree. Thus Bodh Gaya is believed as one of the most four holy site for follower of Buddhism across the world along with other three sites Kushinagar, Sarnath and Lumbini. It is believed that the Mahabodhi Temple Complex was initially built by great King Asoka in the 3rd century B.C. and the present temple are dated back to 5th–6th centuries. Mahabodhi Temple, entirely built up in brick is stand here even after almost 1600 years and presenting important influence in the development of brick architecture over the centuries. The complex consists of the main temple and six other holy places within an enclosed area, and a seventh one, the Lotus Pond, outside the boundary to the south. Another key attraction here is 80 feet statue of Buddha with tagline as spread Buddha's rays to the whole world.
