Nandgaon, the small town of Mathura district in state of Uttar Pradesh is located on and surrounded by Nandisvara Hill at just 10 km from Barsana, 30 km from Govardhan, 32 km from Jatipura, 55 km from Mathura, 48 km from Vrindavan and 67 km from Gokul. Nandgaon also called Nandgram is very important religious destination in Hinduism as it was developed by Nandji or Nandbaba, the foster father of Lord Shri Krishna. It is said that Nand Baba had shifted his place from Gokul to here at top of Nandisvara hill to save Bal Krishna from the demon of King Kans the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Nandgaon is the same place where father of Nandji lived along with his family before going to Gokul due to the terror caused by the demon Keshi. And when demon activated at Gokul by demon king Kansa then Nand Baba had decided to go back to the same place to protect his son Shri Krishna.

Interesting legend associated with Nandiswar Hill which means Lord of Nandi, another name of the Lord Shiva. To witness the Balkrishna lila in personal, Lord Shiva worshipped Lord Krishna and pleased him. Lord Shri Krishna, the eight incarnation of Supreme Lord Vishnu granted wish take the form of a hill and stay here at Nandgaon. So Lord Shiva resided there in the form of Nandishwar hill and enjoyed the various lila like stole butter and curd, Krishna and Gopis step, teased the gopis, raas with Radhaji etc.
