Vadnagar, the ancient historical town is located in Mehsana district in the Gujarat and now important municipality as well. Vadnagar is the birthplace of Shree Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. In ancient time Vadnagar is known as Anartpura and Chamatkarpur and Snehpur and Vimalpur, which is quite important region for Buddhism, Jainism and center of religious and cultural activities since more than 2500 years. As per the Archaeological excavations, it is found the settlement of agricultural community mainly lived here from more than 4,500 years. As per few archaeologistsm Vadnagar was one of the Harappan sites. Vadnagar is also associated with Mahabharata time where several references about Anarta found. The Anarta warriors fought on both the sides of the great war of Mahabharata. Satyaki, chief of Anartas, was the great general in the Pandava side and Kritavarma, a great Anarta warrior, was a general in the Kaurava side.

The great history of Vadnagar is also associated with Alexander the Great of Macedon and mentioned specifically by well-known Chinese traveler Hsuan-Tsang in seventh century.
