There are lots of interesting tales behind the name of the city, as during the Nayakas rule, city named as Madras from Madraspattinam. It was just small fishing village located to the north of the present Fort St. George. Then British bought the small piece of land from the Vijayanagar King to setup business center and built the Fort St. George which is present Secretariat complex of Tamil Nadu Government. As per another Legend, the city was first named as Chennai in honor of Damal Chennappa Nayakkar. Then in 1996, the ruling Government of state had renamed to Chennai.

There are lots of place of tourist attraction like Marina Beach – One of the longest beach of world, Kapaleeswarar Temple, Karaneeswarar Temple, Parthasarathy Temple, Ramakrishna_Math, Fort St. George, Valluvar Kottam, Ashtalakshmi Temple, Government Museum, Mylapore, Marundeeswarar Temple Vivekananda House, MGR film city, Iskon Temple etc. These places attracts millions of tourist across the world throughout the years.
