Jaisalmer, the Golden City and one of the most popular tourist destination of India is located in state of Rajasthan, near the border and in heart of Great Indian Desert – Thar Desert. It is at 550 km from Jaipur capital of Rajasthan and it is district head quarter of Jaisalmer district. As per the legend, Rawal Jaisal, the eldest successor of the Rawal of Deoraj was looking for a new location to set up his capital, then he came across sage Eesul. Sage found Jaisal as the descendent of the Lord Yaduvanshi clan thus sage told him about Krishna’s forecast which said that a descendant of his Yaduvanshi clan will established the new kingdom at this same spot. Then in 1156, Rawal Jaisal constructed a mud fort, named it Jaisalmer after himself, hill fort of Jaisal and declared it as his capital.

The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is the most awaited event in domestic and international tourist which is organized by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation in February every year. The celebration planned in the Thar Desert and the locals dress up in traditional and colorful dresses where singing and dancing, gymnastic acts, camel races, tug of war, turban tying and a march from the Fort to the desert are the key attraction.
