Nathdwara, the major pilgrimage destination and abode of Lord Krishna is famous city of Rajasthan, located on bank of river Banas, in Aravalli hills. It is in Rajsamand district and just 50 km from Udaipur. Nathdwara is very well known for Shrinathji temple or Nathdwara Temple of Lord Shrinathji, 7 year old infant incarnation of Lord Krishna. The meaning of Nathdwara is “The Gateway to Lord” where millions of devotee and follower of Pushti Marg sect of Vaishnavs visits throughout the year.
The history of the Nathdwara is dated back to 17th century when Mughal invader king Aurangzeb had started attack on Hindu temples across the India. To protect the idols of Lord Shrinathji, It was brought to Mewar, Rajasthan from Vrindava, Mathudra, Uttarpradesh. As per the legend, the chariot carrying the image was stuck hear at Nathdwara while traveling. So shrine was established with the permission of the then Rana of Mewar at Nathdwara and going forward town was developed around the area progressively.
Along with main Shrinathji temple, there are other highly sacred temples like Dwarikadheesh Temple, Temples of Lord Shri Ram and Mahadev, Ganesh Tekari etc are the other attraction of the town. Nathdwara is also popular for various delicious street food and Pichwai Painting – traditional Rajasthani style paintings.
