The Shri Shri Radha Krishna Temple of Utah is a very famous religious place in the United States. The purpose of constructing the temple was to fulfill the need of the local Hindu people. The main reason for the existence of the Radha Krishna temple was the effort of Charu Das and his movements within ISKCON. He was born in America. His original name was Christopher Warden. He left his country at a very young age and roamed around India, Singapore, and England. He met his wife in Singapore and they started their work together to spread Krishna Consciousness. The couple traveled to Australia and worked there for a few years. Charu spent many years in Australia with a group of people, who were Krishna devotees. He then came back to the United States and engaged himself in the service for ISKCON. He went to Utah for the first time in 1975, while traveling to Brigham Young University. He sold many books there to build a fund under ISKCON. He left a very positive remark there. He was also thankful for the atmosphere of interest and tolerance. Eventually, the idea to set up a temple happened. The ground-breaking ritual was performed on 10th November 1996. The formation started on 16th February 1998.
The architecture of the temple is inspired by the conventional Hindu temples of India. It is formed in the shape of a dome. The temple reflects the Rajasthani style of architecture of India. It is almost 50 feet in height. There are 13 domes on the top of the temple. The domes and the pillars have very neat carvings. Such kind of architecture is found in the Kusum Sarovar of India. The large amphitheater inside the temple has an area of thousands of people.
Holi is a festival cordially related to Radha and Krishna. The devotees participate in the Holi celebration with great enthusiasm. The festival starts with the ritual called “Holika Dahan”. ISKCON has both Indian and foreign visitors. All of them take an equal part in the festival.
Gaur Purnima is another significant festival celebrated in the temple. ISKCON has a large number of followers in every corner of the world. The followers of Houston and neighboring areas participate in this festival. They follow all the rituals related to worship. The temple gets a different outlook during the festival.
