Madhavpur Ghed, famous for Madhavpur Mela, the ancient historical place and major pilgrimage destination for Vaishnava, located on Dwarka Somnath Road and coastal line, near Porbandar is small village of Porbandar district, Gujarat. Madhavpur holds great religious importance as this is the place where Lord Shri Krishna married with Goddess Rukmani. Madhavpur is named after the one of the name of Lord Shri Krishna – Madhavraj. In the memory of marriage of Lord Krishna and Rukmani, Madhavray temple was built here in 13th century originally.
Every year five day annual fair is organized here from Ram Navami to celebrate the marriage event. Colourful chariot is adorned and idol of Krishna is placed in it. Procession proceeds with full of joy through the village and people celebrates this event with colors and dance. The deep relationship between the East and West of India is our best heritage and best example of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. With the passage of time with the efforts of the people and government bodies, new features are now being added to the Madhavpur fair which attracts thousands of devotee and tourist here during this five day celebration.
This year in 2022, Madhavpur Mela, is inaugurated by Shri Ram Kovind, the president of India on Ram Navami, 10th April, 2022 and celebration happens for five days with true devotion and great zeal.
