Shankalpur is small village near Becharaji in Mehsana District. It is famous for bahucharma temple where Mata is known as Toda Ma. This temple is just 3 Km away from Bahucharmata temple of Becharaji . This temple is very ancient and built 5200 year ago and believed that it is the birth place of Ma Devi Bahuchar. It is renovated by trust and included various facilities like Dharmashala and Bhojanshala for devotee.
History, Significance and Meaning of Toda
It is believed that Rajput King Karanghela was the last king of Gujarat and he offer 2000 villages to his cousin brother Harpalsinh the great devotee of Ma Devi Shakti. He prepared “Toran” in 2000 village in one night and one of the village was Shankhalpur. Thus Ma Bahuchar is also known as Toda Mata here at Shankhalpur. Ma Bahucharji killed demon king Dandasur and released the people and gods from torture of demon.
There is lots of incident when Ma Devi Bahuchar helped devotee and proved the divine power of Ma Shakti. Ma Bahuchar gave Purushatva to Shikhandi, the son of Drupad during Mahabharat time. Thus even today transgender across the India, worship Bahucharmata and seeking for boon. Vallabh Bhatt, Jaduram etc are the great devotee of Ma Bahuchar and even today they are in memory in surrounding area. It is also believed that once the soldier of Alauddin Khilji damaged Hindu temple of Gujarat and reached to Becharaji. They were not able to destroy temple and had to return back due to Ma Bahucharaji.
