Porbandar is well known town across the world for the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi, the great freedom fighter and father of India. The spot where Shree Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 02 octomber 1869 in three storey blue haveli in center of Porbandar, now well known as Kirti Mandir. The temple was built by residential of Porbandar adjacent to birth place in honour of Mahatma Gandhi who released in 1944 from Aga Khan Palace by British Government. 79 feet of height of Kirti Mandir is symbolise of lifespan of 79 years of Mahatma Gandhi. Temple complex comprise of pillars, domes, corridors, shikhara, museum, Kasturba library etc and built as per Hindu architecture and traditional designs from the six key religions of India - Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian. Exhibition hall comprise of Indian handicraft, Khadibhandar articles, real old photograph, books and numerous historical photographs taken with legendary freedom fighters, activists and politicians. Old paintings of Gandhiji and his wife Kasturba place in entrance of temple along with rare black and white pictures of the two sharing lighter moments. Kirti Mandir is most visited place of Porbandar and Gujarat where number of world leaders, celebrities come here to pay their respects to the Father of the Nation.
