Swaminarayan Akshardham temple popularly referred as Akshardham temple is known to be the divine abode of deities. This temple is situated on banks of holy river Yamuna at national highway 24, Akshardham setu. Akshardham as per Swaminarayan Hinduism means the holy house of the almighty lord on earth. The idol of Bhagwaan Swaminarayan is worshipped at Akshardham temple. The temple also houses the idols of various hindu gods and goddess such as lord Krishna and Radha, god Narayan with his wife goddess Laxmi , goddess Sita and god Ram along with god Shiva and goddess Parvati.
Yogiji Maharaj started the idea of Shikharbaddh Mandir on bank of holy river Yamuna, the Akshardham temple in 1968 . Pramukh Swami Maharaj had followed his idea and started Akshardham temple construction in year 2000 after waiting of 32 years. In the year of 2000 the Delhi development authority offered land of 60 acres and the government of uttar pradesh contributed land of 30 acres. After five years of rigorous construction the inauguration of Akshardham temple was celebrated on november 6, 2005 in the presence of Dr. Manmohan singh, L K Advani and Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.
Akshardham temple is built as per Pancharatra Shastra and Vastu Shastra. The main shrine called Garbhagriha remains the central point of the campus surrounded by the exhibition halls depicting the life of Swaminarayan. The temple campus is designed by Virendra Trivedi ,the sompura family member and BAPS Swamis. This glorious architecture of Akshardham is built with pink Rajasthani sandstone and Italian Carrara marble without the support of steel or any other concrete. A 11 foot murti of Swaminarayan in Abhaya Mudra is placed in the central dome. Inside the temple there are nine beautiful mandaps with exceptional carvings at pillars and domes.The Bharat Upawan the garden ined with beautiful lawns and bronze sculptures is a sight to eyes. There are 10 large magnificent gates around the Akshardham temple welcoming gods from all sides as per the Hindu beliefs.
Each murti in Akshardham mandir is created of five dhaatus as prescribed by Hindu traditions. When viewed from the height the temple campus forms a lotus shaped sunken garden with its large stones featuring the quotes of global luminaries including Shakespeare, Swami Vivekanand , Martin Luther King Jr. and Swaminarayan. The Narayan Sarovar lake which surrounds the temple campus flows with water from 151 holy rivers. Yagnapurush Kund, the musical fountain in Akshardham temple, is the largest well of India. The lifelike robotics in hall of values depicts the life of Swaminarayan and his ideas of peace and harmony.

The one of a kind multimedia water show called Sahaj Anand is performed at Akshardham temple depicting the stories from Kena Upanishad with underwater flames, multicolor lasers and water jets.
Akshardham boat rides takes you on journey to vedic ages representing you the systems of Takshila and yoga practices.
A mesmerising light show is performed after sunsets from tuesdays to sundays after 7:30 pm.
