Bethakji are the holy site for the followers of the Pushtimarg tradition of the Vaishnava Sampradaya. These sacred places are located across the India and associated with Shri Vallabhacharyaji – Mabhaprabhuji who lived in 15th century, the founder of Pushtimarg and his descendants. There are total 142 Bethakji, in which 84 Bethakji of Shree Mahaprabhuji, 28 of his son Viththalanath Gusainji and 30 of his seven grandsons. Shri Govindghat Baithakji located in Gokul is among the first one of the 84 Bethakji of Shree Mahaprabhuji.
Sunder Shila also known as Pujnishila where it is believed that Bal Krshna used to play here. Here opposite to Sunder Shila and Mukharvind Temple of Shri Girirajji, 14th bethakji of Shri Mahaprabhuji is located. During the visit of Girirajji, Shri Vallabhacharya Mahaprabhuji used to seat below a tree of Chokar and instructed devotee to celebrate Diwali, Govardhan Puja here and offer the Annakut. Mahaprabhuji had also offered the cow milk and holy water of Mansi Ganga to Girirajji and performed several rituals. At this place only, Mahaprabhuji did Bhagwat Parayan and guided his followers.
Interesting legend is associated with the 14th Bethakji, Shri Damodardasji and Shrinathji himself. Once Shri Vallabhacharyaji was resting in the lap of Shri Damodardasji, the first disciple of Mahaprabhuji. Shri Mahaprabhuji had closed his eyes and enjoying the leela of Shri Krishna. He was not aware about what is happening outside. All of sudden, Lord Shrinathji himself came here and Shri Damodardasji heard the sound of nupur. But he felt that due to sound of nupur, the sleep of Shri Mahaprabhujis will be disturbed thus he had explain situation to Shrinathji by his hand and requested not to come further. Once, Shri Mahaprabhuji woke up and saw Shrinathji standing some step away, he requested Shrinathji with pure devotion to be seated. Then he asked why you are standing here. Then Shrinathji replied and explained about whole thing. One hearing this Shri Mahaprabhuji became angry on Damodardasji but Shrinathji took the side of Damodardasji and told that he has done the correct and follower should do.
