History and Significance of Triveni Sangam, Somnath
Triveni Sangam Ghat, Somnath has been a pilgrimage site from the ancient times on account of being a Triveni sangam - the confluence of three rivers: Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati. Soma, the Moon god, is believed to have lost his shine due to a curse of King Daksh Prajapati, and he bathed in the Sarasvati River at this site during penance of Lord Shiva to regain shine.
Triveni Sangam is believed to be a highly sacred Moksha Tirtha for Hindus. From this place three blessed rivers flow in the Arabian Sea. As the ultimate destination of River is Sea and Moksha is ultimate goal of the human life. This holy river also showcases the main three stage of life birth, life and death.
People believe that a dip in the river at this holy ghat cleanses the body and spirit of all sins committed in his life. As Prabhas Patan area is well known for the Pitru Tarpan and Shraddha from long time, people across the India visit Triveni Sangam Ghat and performed offer Tarpan to their departed ancestors. As per the Puran, Lord Shree Krishna walked to this holy Sangam before journey to Vaikunth. Lots of other temples like Laxminarayan and Gita Temple are located on the shores of the Triveni Sangam Ghats.
