Krishnapura Chhatris, the architecture marvel, located at just half a KM from Rajwada Palace in Indore, the cleanest city of India are mainly three cenotaphs, built in late 1800 by great dynasty of Holkars in memory of great rulers and Maratha soldier. The tombs were built on the cremation spot of the Holkar rulers near Rajwada and located on bank of river Khan. These three Chhatris are dedicated to Maharani Krishnabai Holkar, Maharaja Tukoji Rao Holkar II and his son Shivaji Rao Holkar. Each Chhatris has temple of Lord Krishna. Thus many time these Chhatris are known as Holkar Chhatris or Indore Chhatris or Krishna Pura Chhatris. Dome shaped Cenotaphs with pyramidal spires on top makes Chhatri as excellent example of the architecture of the later Holkars. Thus it is one of the best tourist destination of Indore and recently renovation work also started. You can also find several statues of Gods and Goddess on the exterior walls of Chhatris.
