Madhavraiji Mandir, located in small village Madhavpur Ghed, near sea shore is historical religious place of Gujarat and it is believed that Lord Shri Krishna married to Goddess Rukmani here. In memory of this event, original temple of Madhavraiji was built in 12th or 13 century in Rajputana architecture style. Original temple was attacked and destroyed by Muslim invader but still some ruined are found here near newly built temple. This place and temple is now one of the protected site of Gujarat. The name of the temple is given after one of the name of Lord Krishna, Madhavrai. T2he present temple structure was built in 1840 by Rupaniba – Raajmata of Porbandar state. The original idols are placed in current temple of Madhavrai. Idols of Lord Shri Krishna and his brother Balaram known as Madhavraj and Trikamrai respectively in haveli style temple.

Legend behind the Madhavraiji Temple, Madhavpur Ghed, Gujarat
As per the legend, Lord Krishna kidnapped princess Rukmini -Rukmini haran on wish of Rukmani to prevent her with unwanted marriage with Shishupala. Rukmani was the daughter of King Bhishmaka of Vidarbh state. Princess Rukmani was fall in love with Lord Shri Krishna due to greatness, charm and character of Shri Krishna. Rukmani’s parents were agree to get her marry to Krishna but her brother Rukmi had opposed it and arrange marriage of Rukmani with his friend Shishupala who was associated with Magadh king Jarasandha. To avoid this marriage Rukamani had sent a latter for Shri Krishna through her trusted Panditji. Lord Shri Krishna had understood situation and agree for Rukamni Haran to avoid war between Dwarka and Vidarbh. It is believed that Lord Krishna married princess Rukmini at this village while returning to Dwarka. Rukamani was the first and the most prominent queen of Krishna. It is also believed that Rukmini is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.
Best time to visit Madhavraiji Mandir is during certain festivals like Janmashthami, Tulshi Vivaha, Diwali and the best of all for Rukmini Vivaha from Ram Navmi to next four day where annual fair is arranged.

You can reach here through personal or private vehicle also you can get government buses from Porbandar or Somnath or Dwarka at high frequency. Madhavpur Ghed is at around 73 km from Somnath, 83 km from Junagadh, 165 km from Dwarka and 185 km from Rajkot.
