Harihareshwar temple and Kal Bhairav temple, located near Harihareshwar beach in small town Harihareshwar of Raigad district of Maharashtra is one of the most Prehistoric and the most famed Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is also known as Dakshin Kashi. In the temple the divinity of Lord Shiva and Kaal Bhairav incarnation of Lord Shiva - the Lord of all mantra Shastra are worshipped. It is said that KalBhairav is being created by the Lord Shiva and blessed with all the power of mantra. The architecture of the temple KalBhairav is quite unique which attract the Tourist and devotees through out the year and especially during Maha Shivratri and Sravan month. With the exception of that magnificent design and the cool zephyr from the sea, make temple complex pleasurable and cool for relaxation. At the time of Mahashivratri festival the temple is crowded by devotees and it is celebrated with great ardour.

It is called that KalBhairav is Avatar of Lord Shiva. It is said that he has sharp looks, tigers teeth, angry Eyes and flaming hair. He carries Trident noose, Skull and drum. Just like Lord Shankara snake is corkscrew around KalBhairav’s neck. It is said that in India some lords are extremely firm. While worshipping them it is extremely mandatory to follow each and every rule.
Harihareshwar town is located on river Savitri and surrounded by four sacred hill Harshinachal, harihareshwar, bramhadri and Pushpadri. Along with River, Hills and long stretch of pristine beach makes the Harihareshwar – perfect tourist destination of Maharashtra. Another name of harihareshwar is Dev-Ghar or House of God. Here the deity of local people is, KalBhairav who is the ferocious form of Lord Shiva.
It is said that this Temple had been constructed during the period of Peshwa region in 16th century. And it is also said that Brahma Dev himself dugged a well inside the temple which is called Brahmakoop. Idols of Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma are also placed in temple campus. The Yogeshwari Temple is also situated near the main campus. It is also believed that Bheema, one of the Pandava brothers broke a huge rock into half which placed in the middle of the temple.

From Harihareshwar, the nearest airport is in Mumbai, at a distance of around 200 km and nearest railway station is in Mangaon which is approximately 60 Kms away. So you can easily reach by train and flight.
