The Sripuram Golden Temple also known as Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple or Vellore Golden Temple, world’s biggest Golden temple is situated at the foot of the lush green hills at Thirumalaikodi or Malaikodi in southern Vellore in Tamil Nadu, India. As the name suggested temple is covered with 1500 kg pure gold, housing the deity of Sri Lakshmi Narayani – 70 kg gold idol, the Goddess of wealth in Hinduism. The temple spread across 100 acres of land and constructed with just seven years and inauguration took place on 24th August 2007. The temple constructed and managed by the charitable trust, Sri Narayani Peedam headed by its spiritual leader Sri Sakthi Amma also known as Narayani Amma. The divine vision of Amma is to create temple for humankind irrespective of religion or cast. Sripuram is also famed as The Spiritual Oasis which attracting millions of people from different from across the globe for peace of mind.
The speciality of the temple is that the temple is very beautifully covered with the pure gold foils from inside the temple as well as outside the temple. Every part of the temple was handmade using gold bars to convert them into foils. In all, around 1.5 tons gold was used to make this temple. The path which makes you enter towards the temple is in the shape of the Star, which brings peace and relaxation to the visitors. Devotees passing through this star path are blessed to read messages of truth, righteousness and transformation in human beings. The shape is regarded as auspicious as Sri Chakra. The Golden Temple of Sripuram is built in the Vedic style of architecture. The Annapoorani Mandapam or dining hall with around 10,000 people capacity developed where devotees are served delicious vegetarian meals on fresh banana leaves.
The temple is located just 8 km from Vellore, 130 km from Chennai, 220 km from Bangalore and 100 km from Tirutapi.
There is a huge lush green park around the temple, it has more than 20,000 different species of plants which is the most attracting place to the visitors. There is also an Eco-pond Sarvatheertham which was created by bringing water from all the major rivers of India. Sashasra Deepam or one thousandth eight light lamps is a ceremony that is performed in the temple every morning and in the evening. Visitors are very attracted by seeing this type of Aarti in the temple.
Temple trust manages various service like accommodation, restaurants, parking, waiting area etc. to facilitated devotee and visitors.
