Bhuvaraha Temple is solely dedicated to the incarnation of the Lord Vishnu as Boar Avatar and his consort as Ambujavalli Thayar located in Srimushnam in Tamil Nadu. This temple is one of the eight Swayambhu Kshetram of Lord Vishnu along with other seven, Sri Rangam, Tirupati, Vanamamalai, Salagramam, Pushkaram, Naimisaraynam and Badrikashram.

As per legend, the Demon Hiranyakashipu had stolen the earth. Then Bhudevi requested the Lord Vishnu to help her. Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of the Varaha, a Boar and killed the Demon. Lord Varaha had re-established the earth on the head of Adisheshnag as before. The sweat of the Demon felled here creating the Temple Tank. In his dying wish, the Demon asked the Vishnu to turn towards his direction, Vishnu obliged. The central icon faces towards the demon in south, while his human body faces the devotees in the west.

This temple is in existence from the 11th Century during the Chola dynasty and then renovated and expanded by other great ruler of South India. Granite wall surrounds the temple, which enclosing all the shrines and the temple tanks. There is a beautifully carved seven-tiered temple's gateway tower rajagopuram at entrance and other five tiered gopuram in eastern side, which only opens on Vaikunta Ekadashi. The sixteen pillared hall - Purushasuktha Mandapa is another masterpiece of architecture of Nayaka ruler.

Prarthana Sthalam is constructed for childless couples where Ladies, who have bath in the Nithya Pushkarani, go around the Arasa tree 12times, offer milk and fruits to small kids and worshipped lord Varaha to get blessed with child.

Another specialities of this temple is the offering of Korai Kazhangu as prasadam to the Lord.

The deity of the Vishnu is the most pleasing view and also Swayambhumurthi of Salagrama stone in the temple. The Lord appears here so majestically with his two hands on the hips. It is believed that worshipping the Lord in this form shall lead to Salvation. So many festivals like Masi Magam, Chithirai Brahmmotsavam, Pushkarini, Vaikasi Visakam, Ekadashi, Makarsankranti is celebrated here with great enthusiasm.
