Maa Tarini Pitha temple, located in Ghatgaon around 50 km from Keonjhar, Odisha is one of the most visited Shakti peeth, sacred historical place and major pilgrimage center. The temple is located in natural surrounding area and forest with various wildlife thus also popular as one day picnic spot. Devotee and local people believe in the Shakti of natural things and offer coconut in Tuesday or Saturday once wish completed as Ma Tarini is merciful towards the devotees. Thus every day thousands of devotee visits here and offer coconut.
As per the local belief, King of Kendujhar was bringing Maa Tarini from Puri to Kendujhar with a condition that if he turn back then goddess will not move further. Maa Tarini was coming behind king and from the sound of her ornaments, king knew that goddess is following him but near the Ghatagaon in the deep forest the sound of the ornaments didn't came thus the king looked back. So as per the condition Maa tarini stayed there and worshiped as the queen of Forest here.
The temple is built in Kalinga Architectural style and shaded with orange and white stones on the outer surface and walls.
