Chintala Venkataramana Swamy Temple of Lord Venkateswara, form of Vishnu is located on bank of River Penna at Tadipatri, town of Anantpur district, Andhra Pradesh. This ancient and historical temple is also popular as Chintalarayaswamy Temple and built by Pemmasani Timmanayudu son of Ramalinga Naidu of the Pemmasani Nayaks during reign of Vijayanagara Empire in 16th Century. Chintala Venkataramana swamy temple is well known for its granite sculptures, stone chariot, striking resemblance to Hampi’s Vittala temple and classified as one of the key Monuments of National Importance by the Archaeological survey of India. This temple is located just one km from Bugga Ramalingeshwara temple of Tadipatri so devotee and tourist can plan to cover these two historical religious place in one day tour from Bangalore.
Key attraction of temple spread in 5 acrs of land is its architecture and especially stone chariot which is small in size as compared to the famous stone chariot at Hampi. Apart from this, Garuda Mandapa, large Mukha mandapa with its forty pillars, Ranga Mantapa and the Garbha Griha with images and stories from Mahabharatha, Ramayana and Bhagavatha attracts devotee and tourist here to spend time. 10 feet beautiful idol of Lord Venkataramana Swamy placed in the Garbha Griha. As per the legend, the idols of Lord Venkateswara was found in the Tamarind (Telugu – Chinta Chettu) tree, then villagers started worship here and at same time Lord Vishnu appeared in Pennasani’s dream, ordered him to build temple there. Thus this temple is then famous as name Chintala Venkataramana.
