History, Importance, Temple Campus and Facilities at Jain Tirth, Idar, Gujarat
Shri Idar Jain Tirth, located on Idar Gadh at just one km from Idar, Sabarkantha, Gujarat is ancient and important tirth dedicated to Lord Shantinath. White idol of Bhagwan Shantinath – 16th Tirthankar of Jainism in Padmasana posture is placed in temple campus. As per the legend, this hill was known as Illaspadra, Illadurg, Iyadar etc. in different time period. As per the sacred scriptures of Jainism, this temple was first build by the king Samprati, around 285 years after Bhagwan Mahaveer. Later on renovation takes place at different time period by other ruler and saint. Idar is major pilgrimage destination for Jain as lot of Jain Acharya and donor’s birth place. There are around 600 steps for climbing the hill to reach the temple. On the way you can find the king’s palace and this fort is known as the Idario fort. Huge fair is held here every year on Purnima of Kartik and Chaitra month.
Along with the main shrine, one Digamber Jain temple is also located on the hills. Apart from this there are five Swetamber temples and three Digamber Temples built in Idar. As Idar is historical place for follower of Jainism, thousands of devotee and tourist visit here throughout the year. Various Dharamshala with all facilities and bhojanshala are developed in Idar and also on Idar hill – famous as Idario Gadh.
How to reach Idar Jain Tirth: As Idar is Taluka place and famous town of Sabarkantha district, Gujarat, and located on main road to Khedbrahma and Ambaji, thus easily reachable by Road. Idar is also very well connected by rail network. Ahmedabad airport is the nearest airport at just 100 kms from Idar.
