History of Rukmini Temple, Dwarka
Rukmini was first and most favorite wife of Lord Shree Krishna among the all 16108 wives. Rukmini was the daughter of Bhismaka, king of Vidarbh and believed that incarnation of Goddess Laxmi. Princess Rukmini was fall in love of Lord Shree Krishna after heard about his virtue, immensity, and charm from a long time. She decided to marry with Lord Shree Krishna but her brother Rukmi was not ready for marriage. Rukmi wanted her sister to marry with his friend demon king Sishupal who was closed to Jarasandh.
Rukmini sent a letter to Lord Shree Krishna with Brahman Sunanda whom she trusted. Probably this was the first love letter in the Indian History. Rukamani requested Lord Shree Krishna to kidnap her to avoid battle. Thus Lord Shree Krishna and Rukmini got married.
After marriage Lord Shree Krishna and Rukmini invited sage Durvasa to Dwarka for dinner with them. Sage Durvasa had accepted the invitation with one condition that Lord Shree Krishna and Rukmini had to pull his chariot. They are agreed to pull chariot, during the journey Durvasa went in deep meditation.
Rukmini was thirsty during journey, to relief her Lord Shree Krishna pounded his toe to ground and spring of water came out. When Rukmini stopped chariot to drink water, sage Durvasa was disturbed in meditation. In anger he cursed Rukmini that she and Krishna would live apart. It is believed that due to this curse Rukmini Temple is away from the Dwarkadhish Temple.
