History, Temples and Travel Guide of Jageshwar Dham, Almora, Uttarakhand
Jageshwar Temples or Jageshwar Valley or Jageshwar complex is located at 37 kms far from Almora in the Himalayan Range of Uttarakhand. There are around 124 Temples being built as a big temple and small temple, the temples are architect as per north Indian style and the visitors get attracted to the small patterns being carved on the stones of the Temples. Jageshwar is one of the Hindu Pilgrimage and one of the major Dham in the Shaivism tradition. The complex have Jageshwar Mahadev temple, Surya temple, Dandeshwar temple, Chandi-ka-temple, Kuber temple, Nanda Devi temple, Nava grah temple, a pyramidal shrine etc.
The origin of the Jageshwar temple is still unclear but one can imagine how old the temple is by seeing the work done on the stones. It is said that the architectural styles which is carved in those stones belong to 7th century and was continued till 12th century. The Dandeshwar temple is biggest temple among them and many devotees comes here to visit those temples. Two main festival are celebrated here. The Jageshwar Monsoon festival which is held during Sravan month, around August and the Shivratri Mela which is held during spring season.
How to reach Jageshwar Dham : It is It is very well connected by road with all major cities of Uttarakhand. Pant Nagar is the nearest airport at aroud 150 kms from and Kathgodam is the nearest railway station at a distance of 115 kms. Buses and private taxis are easily available for Jageshwar Dham from Almora, Kathgodam, GangoliHat, Pant Nagar etc. State buses, private jeeps or taxis are regularly available to reach the Jageshwar Dham.
