Kainchi Dham is the famous for Temple of Lord Hanuman and Ashram at a distance of 20 kms from Nainital. This place become very famous due to great saint Neem Karoli Baba Maharajji. Maharaj had acquired a land in this place and built Lord Hanuman Temple for devotees and along with it the Kainchi Ashram where every year lakhs of people visit this Ashram. Baba Neem Karoli used to spend his time praying at cave beside the temple thus it is considered a holy area.
It was believed that Neem Karoli Baba was the monk who knew everything and people used to believe in his faith and the life quotes through which he inspired lot of people surrounding him. The ashram is so called Kainchi because Kainchi means scissor and it was so named because the ashram was located between two hills like cut and cross so ashram was called Kainchi Ashram. Neem Karoli Baba took Samadhi on 10th September 1973.
People of world were not so much aware of the place but it got attention because in 1973, Steve jobs, Ex-CEO of Apple Company, visited this place as he was going through his rough time due to job, career. So, he came here to find the solution of his questions and he went back enlightened with his new life thoughts. In 2008, CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg also visited Kainchi Dham in search of peace.
The Pran-Pratishtha of idols of Hanumanji was performed on 15th June thus every year on 15th June, a Fair is organized and the local visitors and the devotees come here to take Prasad in Bhandara. Every year lakh of people are fed during this day.
How to reach Kainchi Dham: It is just 9 kms away from Bhowali and 17 kms of Nainital city. You can hire a taxi or private buses to reach here. Kathgodam is the nearest Railway Station at a distance of 37 kms from Kainchi Dham. The nearest air connectivity is the Pantnagar Airport at a distance of 71 kms. The Taxis are available from the Railway Station or from the Airport.
