History and Significance of Old Somnath Temple, Prabhas Patan
Old somnath temple is in near to Somnath Bus station and in front of Somnath Temple. This pink painted designed temple showcase the golden history of Prabhas Patan area and Somnath. During the 17th century, Prabhas Patan area was under Maratha Ruler. Queen Ahilyabai Holkar was impressed with history, culture and glory of the Somnath and sad as Muslim Rulers ruined this great temple city. Thus Ahilyabhai Holkar decided to reconstruct Somnath Temple. It had been said that the location Swayambhulinga came in dream of here and started constructing with immediate effect.
Many devotee of Lord Shiva believed that the original Jyotirlinga installed here in this temple. Everybody is allowed to enter the garbhagriha and perform Pooja, Abhisheka and Rituals with the help of the shastriji or Pujari of Temple.
