History, and Significance of Bhrigu Rishi Temple, Bank of Sacred River Narmada, Bharuch, Gujarat
Maharshi Bhirgu in one of the seven sages – Saptarshi, Manas Putra of Lord Brahma and one of the Prajapati. Great sage Bhrigu is the author of Bhrigu Samhita – book on astrology, he is also known as Rishi Bhargava, the father of great rishi Chyavan, Shukracharya, Jmadagni and grandfather of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Supreme lord Vishnu. It is believed that Bhrigu rishi was lived during the time of Shree Manu, earliest period of human being on earth. Due to certain reason it said that that Rishi Bhrigu had left the place where he grew up, current Haryana and relocated to Bharuch on the banks of River Narmada and setup the Ashram. Thus in honour of great saint on bank of River Narmda, Bhrigu Rishi temple was constructed by Marathas in 17th century. This temple is one of the popular and sacred temples of Gujarat, situated on the east of the Bharuch in Dandia Bazar area on banks of the sacred river Narmada.
Bharuch is highly significance for pilgrims and tourist for Sacred River Narmada and Bhrigi Rishi temple and it is also said that Bharuch was originally called 'Bhrigukachchha’.
Bhrigu Rushi temple is divided into two parts, in first part idols of Parasurama, Bhrigu rishi, Lord Ganesh, Renuka mata and Jamadagni Rishi are placed. In second part, idols of Lord Narayana, Four vedas in the form of Shiva lingas and some other idols of Dashavataras are placed.It is believe that Bhrigi Rishi composed around 500,000 horoscopes and recorded the predictions of many people. These was based on the planetary positions of the Sun, Moon and the planets. However the original Bhrigu Sanhita and all horoscope including university library were destroy or lost during muslim attack in 12th and 13th centuries. Now only small section of records of Bhrigu Sanhita is available with Brahmin community in several part of India.
