Kadia Dungar is situated around 40 km away from Bharuch where group of seven caves are located at near Zazpor village of Zagadiya Taluka of in Bharuch, Gujarat. According to local beliefs, they were made by the Pandavas during their exile and Bhima’s marriage with Hidimba is also associated here. The group has seven caves carved out in 1st and 2nd century on the mountain. The group includes sculpture of monolithic lion pillars and water tank on top of it. The site has brick stupa at the foot of a mountain, caves were Vihara and influenced by Buddhist architecture. These caves are the first of this kind to be found in the south Gujarat and believed to be of Kshatrap time. The Kadia Dungar caves are similar to the caves found in Junagadh Uparkot and Khambhalida near Virpur. Some sculptures had been found and identified at various sites to be made of the rhyolite from Kadia Dungar.
