Umiya Mata Temple, Unjha, Mehsana District, Gujarat
It is believed that the original shrine of Umiya Mata temple was built around 1800 years ago in Chalukya style. Uma Ma, wife of Lord Shiva is the second incarnation of goddess Parvati and Kuldevi – main deity of Kadva Patidar community. Thus Umiya Mata temple located in the center of Unjha, town of Mehsana district is the key pilgrimage site for Kadva Patidar. Unjha is also famous for its biggest market of spice and seed across Asia. It is also believed that Ma Uma Manir was established by Lord Shiva at Unjha. Every day thousand of devotee of Ma Uma worship here and specifically visits during the Navratri .
History of Umiya Ma Temple, Unjha
Vrajpal Sinhji, king of Madhvati near Uttar Pradesh and Bihar was defeated by King Chandrasen in battle and had to flee to Gujarat. Once he reached to Siddhpur and met his community there and they insisted king to stay here thus King Vrajpal stayed at Unjha. He had constructed Umiya Mata temple here at Unjha in Vikram Samvat 212 with grand Yagna. This original temple was small, but current grand temple built by contribution of all the family of Patidar Community in Vikram Samvat 1943.
