Legend of Kabirvad, River Narmada, Bharuch, Gujarat
Kabir Das was the great saint and poet of 15th century, born in Varanasi and highly influenced by his teacher Shree Ramanand the spiritual leader and founder of Vaishnav Ramanandi Sampraday. It is believed that Sant Kabir did the meditation here at sacred place Kabirwad.
Kabirvad is the small island of Banyan trees in highly sacred River Narmada, around 15 km from Bharuch and 80 km from Surat, Gujarat. Banyan tree is call Vad in Gujarati language and as Saint Kabir lived here and did meditation thus thi sacred place named as Kabirvad. Devotee and tourist can reach here by boat from Shuklatirth Shiva temple on bank of River Narmada in around 15 min of boat ride.
The single Banyan tree on beautiful island Kabirvad is now spread into over 3000 trunks in around 3km of area in 600 years and impossible to find the original trunk. Along with the Kabirvad tourist and devotee can visit the Kabir Temple, Kabir Museum and enjoy boat riding in this spiritual abode.
