History and Significance of Sun Temple – Somnath

It is an ancient temple dedicated to god Sun also known as Suraj Mandir. It is just one km from somnath temple and near to triveni sangam. It is one of the Sun's Temple and seems to be very old. It is near Shri Pandav Gufa opp to Ram Mandir. Suraj Mandir too is situated near the Triveni Ghats and is one of the few temples dedicated to the Sun God. There are depictions of elephants, lions and various other birds and animals in the temple and step well in temple premise. This temple was also attacked by Muslim rulers along with Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple. This is one of the rare holy sites dedicated to the spirits of nature which are praised in the Hindu heritage and religion.
