Shree Akkalkot Swami Samarth Maharaj is well known as incarnation of the divine personality Shrimad Narasimha Saraswati Maharaj. It is believed that Shree Narshimha Saraswati Maharaj was performing his penance for last 300 years and earlier incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. By mistake woodcutter strokes his axe on anthill and he noticed blood on his axe. He saw that a yogi was performing his penance. The Yogi came out from Samadhi calmly and told woodcutter that – “The time of resuming my spiritual mission has come – it is the wish of the god.”
The Yogi was Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj. Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj was first seen near Khandoba temple, Akkalkot, district Solapur, Maharshtra. Before it is belived that he visited Himalayas, China, Tibet and Nepal as well as in Puri, Banaras, Haridwar, Girnar, Kathiawad and Rameshwaram.
Shree Vamanbua Vamorikar was one of the passionate disciples of Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj.Due to some condition he decided to take Jal Samadhi- today’s Sursagar, at that time Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj appeared in front of him. At this place Shree Vasudev Raoji had built the math. Thus Akkalkot Swami Math is having old and great history to know.
This is a place which was formed at the end of 18 century. This temple is known for preserving Paadukas of the Shree Swami Samarth. The temple is located at a very famous place, just besides the Sursagar Lake in old city area. This place is easily accessible for devotee and tourist.
