Mahakali Ma Temple, Pavagadh is situated on the top of Pavagadh Hill, about 800 m high from sea level, near Champaner the ancient historical capital of Gujarat. This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeth Temple of goddess Shakti, as it is believed that right leg toe of Ma Devi Sati was fallen down at this spot. Since part of Paav (leg) was fallen here, thus this place is named Pavagadh. Goddess Mahakalika Mandir, Pawagadh is one of the most popular pilgrimage centres of Gujarat, which attracts millions of tourists and pilgrims throughout the year.
One of the important fact of Mahakali temple is, from several centuries flag was not hosted here at Pavagadh temple due to broken Shikhara. But finally the renovation of Shikhara is completed and gold plated Kalash, Dhwaja Dand and new idols are installed in temple premise. Various development activities of phase one are completed at cost of 121 crores and next phase activities like accommodation and annakshetra will start soon.
Work for 210-feet lift to reach temple is under process which can accommodate 12 persons and will reach from ground zero to the temple level in 40 seconds.
