History and Importance of Shamalaji
Shamalaji is a small village situated on the bank of river Mesvo, but major Hindu pilgrimage centre in Aravalli district of Gujarat. It is very famous across the Vaishnav for the Shamlaji temple, dedicated to lord Vishnu or Krishna. This temple was built in 11th century and renovated around 500 yers ago.
Several other ancient Hindu temples, Buddhist Stupa known as Devni Mori of 3 century AD and Jain Temples are located nearby. Lots of temples in ruins, ancient brick-work and scattered idols found at Shamlaji even today which showcase that since ancient times it has been famous pilgrimage on the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
